Zendesk appoints David Hall-Johnston as CTO for APAC

Zendesk has announced the appointment of David Hall-Johnston as Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). Based in Melbourne, Hall-Johnston leads the company’s regional technology strategy, focusing on enterprise AI adoption and aligning global product developments with local market requirements.

Hall-Johnston brings over 20 years of enterprise technology leadership experience to the role. He joins Zendesk from Dell Technologies, where he served as CTO for Australia and New Zealand. His career spans senior executive and technical positions at Hexaware Technologies, Cathay Pacific, the Australian Energy Market Operator, ANZ, and IBM.

The appointment aligns with Zendesk’s regional expansion as businesses transition from AI experimentation to full deployment in business-critical operations. According to Zendesk Chief Technology Officer Adrian McDermott, Hall-Johnston’s role focuses on connecting technology strategy with enterprise transformation to support the development of autonomous service operations.

The move comes during a period of growth for Zendesk’s AI services, with AI bookings more than doubling in fiscal year 2026. Within the APJ region, enterprise focus has shifted toward integrating AI agents with organizational data and existing infrastructure, alongside an increased emphasis on system architecture, data integration, and governance to ensure secure scaling.

Hall-Johnston noted that his priority in the position is guiding regional enterprises through the next phase of AI deployment—transitioning from pilot programs to embedding secure, automated systems into core business operations.
